==Background Story==

The story that the tournament circles around is called The Nightmare Chronicles, and is about two siblings: Guido and Lynnie Alacheeto They deal with a dream-invading monster called Nightmare, a doppleganger of Guido who was born in his dead girlfriend's worst dreams.

==The Story of the Tournament==

Imagine that you are on your own merry way, doing whatever it is you do in your daily existence. Then, imagine a ghastly figure named Nightmare dragging you into his own demented world, forcing you to fight in his evil games for his enjoyment. He has captured 64 'contestants,' and are plungingyou all into fighting to the death. Will you survive? Do you want to make it out alive? Do you have any unfinished business to attend to? Then fight to live as you battle through your opponents, and face the evil Nightmare, face-to-face.

But who is this Nightmare you speak of?

==The Antagonist - Nightmare==

Nightmare resembles a man in his late teens, with generally scruffy hair and a slender physique. Only thing is, since he's a dream-demon, he dons coal-black skin, black eyes with red pupils, crimson-red hair, and a white wife-beater with jeans and boots. He may not sound ominous at first, but he possesses the ability to kill you indeed.

Nightmare's personality is: He loves to annoy, pester, and most of all, terrify his victims. He is generally childish, but he will be serious when the occasion arises.

His 'fun' involves:
1) Invading a person's mind
2) Putting them to sleep by interfering with their brains
3) Giving them an extremely realistic nightmare where they die from some sort of monster in Nightmare's own little world

When they wake up, they thought they actually died. That's how bad it is. Now, his goal is to do this enough to drive his victims mad. He just loves to break the human psyche. But his most feared skill is dragging his victims into his world by submerging reality into the darkness of his mind...

==Nightmare's World - The Devil's Playground==

Nightmare created this world exclusively for his twisted games. He does not call it by any particular name, but he infests the place with monsters to torture and maim his victims. The Devil's Playground is engulfed in a thin fog, and is extremely dark and menacing. Most of the buildings are run-down, demolished, or empty, but Nightmare has created eight particular areas that he will use in his twisted games:

The Toy Factory, a horrific toy factory that mass-produces instruments of terror.

Bishop's Gate, a circus wonderland from the dark pits of Hell.

The Sinkhole, an underwater nightmare consisting of sunken ships, ravenous monsters, and the ultimate threat.

The Mines/Labyrinth, a series of dangerous, twisting tunnels that lead to confusing mazes.

The Cathedral, the festering center of evil condensed in the form of a symbol of pure good.

Fury's Mansion, the residence of an alien that now belongs to a disgruntled poltergeist and her minions.

The Clock Tower, a massive, looming, terrible tower that stands for miles high.

The Island/Asteroid, a floating mass of rock in the sky that was once an asteroid. Now its home to a series of blood-thirst beasts.

==Non-Playable Characters - the Judges==

Nightmare’s general objective is to drag his victims into his own world for a tournament where the people kill each other for his enjoyment. However... if this doesnt work, and there are survivors (there is 1 survivor in each area, naturally), this is where the NPCs step in.

The NPCs have been dragged into Nightmare's world against their will, being forced to watch over 8 contestants in each area. The judges are evil supernatural beings, each with the intent of killing the sole survivor. While they will not attack you at first, they will later.

==Other NPCs - Nightmare's Minions==

Nightmare has a variety of minions you can use in your stories. Basically, these guys are not messing around, and they will not hesitate to kill you!

The Tormentor: Several tons of pure terror. Created by condensed evil, this mask-wearing abomination is truly something to be afraid of! It uses its sheer strength to kill its victims.

Bonnie and Clyde: Two evil versions of Guido and Lynnie, the aforementioned protagonists of The Nightmare Chronicles, who have been created from their worst nightmares. They don 1920's gangster clothing, and they will not hesitate to maul you. They resemble Guido and Lynnie. Bonnie wields a large club, while Clyde prefers guns and knives to do the dirty work.

==The Requirements==

To join this tournament, please do the following:

For comics:

1) Provide a clear, drawn reference sheet with your character and the following info: name, age, weapon, backstory, strengths, weaknesses, any other info you may feel like adding (Must be in color).

2) An audition comic of 3-10 pages showing your character being forced into Nightmare's world by either Nightmare himself, or one of the NPCs.

3) Please keep in mind that your character can be anything you want! Have fun with it!

4) Fan characters will be outright rejected.

For writers:

1) Provide a clear, drawn reference sheet with your character and the following info: name, age, weapon, backstory, strengths, weaknesses, any other info you may feel like adding (Must be in color).

2) An audition piece of 1000 words or more depicting your character being forced into Nightmare's world by either Nightmare himself, or one of the NPCs.

3) Please keep in mind that your character can be anything you want! Have fun with it!

4) Fan characters will be outright rejected.

5) Apply proper grammar. Your audition will be in danger of being rejected if your grammar is like this: "Noboddy lieks gramer liek thiz."

Although the official audition period starts on the 15th of June, audition pieces will be accepted at this time. The sky's the limit to what type of character you may have, so have fun with it! That's the name of the game!

This tournament will be judged on story-telling skills, so be prepared to create something epic!

The tournament starts on August 25th.

==FAQ==

Q. Is this set in the dream world, so nobody actually dies?
A. I'm afraid not, this tournament is set in the real world. See, Nightmare used his ability to submerge the real world into darkness, and twist it into his own, so if your character dies here, then that means that they really die.

Q. Am I just limited to using any specific race?
A. Of course not! You can use any species imaginable! Humans, orcs, fairies, demons, monsters, zombies, immortals, etc.

Q. Cool, immortals?!
A. Yea, but if you use an immortal, PLEASE don't god-mod the battles. Try and have some weaknesses that make the story more interesting. Remember, this is to test story-telling abilities.

Q. Is the deadline for auditions June 15th? *panic mode!*
A. No, the auditions start on June 15th. The auditions are all due on August 20th, so they may be evaluated, people can be separated into arenas, and we can kick this thing off on August 25th!

Q. Can we use more than one character?
A. Well, you can only use one for fighting. It would be unfair if you had to fight seven people at once, right? You can have 'tag-alongs' to enhance your stories, but please keep the number of people you're using to fight at one.

Q. Can I collab with another artist in a joined effort?
A. Yes, you can collaborate, but just be warned that as a team, you need to work together to make your entries. I have seen this kinda thing happen before where one teammate did all the work while the other did nothing to help. This is quite irritating to behold, so if you are going to be in a collaborative effort, PLEASE work as a team!
